The Most Beautiful Gift

So today, I was watching one of my favourite movies 'A walk to remember'. I don't really know how many times, I have seen the movie. This is an amazing movie for all the hopeless romantics. But while I was watching it, I realized something. In the film, Landon Carter(the main lead) gives his girlfriend Jamie, the most beautiful and romantic gift ever. If you have seen the movie, You know it. He named a star by her name through 'International Star Registry'.  Now, Ain't it the most beautiful gift ever??? Is there any girl who will dislike a gift like that??  So give ur girlfriend a STAR, trust me Its hundred times cheaper than Diamonds. :P

Empire State of Mine

Hello World!

I was talking to a friend, basically teasing him and he asked me what is my last wish before death ( As if he can kill me anytime and even if he kills me he is really going to fullfill my last wish....Silly Boy!!!). So being a lil tricky I answered him that my wish was "I wanna look at the Empire state Building from my bedroom's window with my husband narrating that this is where he proposed me thirty years back." - Now it was tricky because I was gettin everything by this wish...A loving Hubby, an apartment in New York(near manhattan, so obviously I am rich), and above all A long happy life( since he proposed me  thirty years back....so maybe we're almost reaching our Sixties and maybe havin one or two grandkids ...LOL) - Whatelse a woman can get from her life.  While talking about this I get this idea of writing about this topic, as I am very fascinated by the famous 102 story landmark called the "EMPIRE STATE BUILDING". I don't know why but I get very excited whenever somebody talks about it or I see it in anywhere in TV. So here is this blog dedicated to Empire State Building.

 Basic facts of the Building:

The Empire state building is a 102 story landmark in New York City, US.Its name is derived from the nickname for New York, the Empire State. It stood as the world's tallest building for more than 40 years, from its completion in 1931 until construction of the World Trade Center's North Tower was completed in 1972. Following the destruction of the World Trade Center in 2001, the Empire State Building once again became the tallest building in New York City. IT has been named by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.

History Of the Building :

The site of the Empire State Building was first developed as the John Thompson Farm in the late 18th century. At the time, a stream ran across the site, emptying into Sunfish Pond, located a block away.  The Empire state building was designed by William F. Lamb from architechtural firm Shreve, Lamb and Harmon, which produced the drawings in just two weeks.

The empire state buildingcelebrates many cultures and causes in the world community with iconic lightings. Outside od its tradition of lightings of the religious holidays od Easter, Eid al-Fitr, Hanukah and Christmas, the Empire state building has a specific policy againstlightning for religious figures, religious organizations and additional relighious holidays.

Observation Deck:

A Night View from the observatory

The Empire State Building has one of the most popular outdoor observatories in the world, having been visited by over 110 million people. The 86th-floor observation deck offers impressive 360-degree views of the city. There is a second observation deck on the 102nd floor that is open to the public. It was closed in 1999, but reopened in November 2005. It is referred as one of the most romantic places in NYC.

Most Beautiful Suicide:

Over the years, more than thirty people commited suicide from the top of the building. On May 1, 1947, 23-year-old Evelyn McHale leapt to her death from the 86th floor observation deck and landed on a United Nations limousine parked at the curb.  The police found a suicide note among possessions she left on the observation deck: "He is much better off without me ... I wouldn’t make a good wife for anybody". This is often referred to as "The Most Beautiful Suicide". It was later used by visual artist Andy Warhol in one of his paintings entitled Suicide (Fallen Body).

"Empire State Building" in Popular Culture:

Beautiful View from New Jersey

Perhaps the most famous popular culture representation of the building is in the 1933 film King Kong, in which the title character, a giant ape, climbs to the top of the building to escape his captors but falls to his death.

The 1939 romantic drama film Love Affair involves a couple who plan to meet atop the Empire State Building. The film was remade in 1957 (as An Affair to Remember) and in 1994 (again as Love Affair). The 1993 film Sleepless in Seattle, a romantic comedy partially inspired by An Affair to Remember, climaxes with a scene at the Empire State observatory.

Many other popular film like  Independence Day, The Day after tomorrow, When worlds collide have featured this beautiful building.

Hopefully One day I'll visit Empire State Building with my someone special... Till then
